Facial Exercises to Slim the Face

Although some people may be skeptical about facial exercises, many have used them in an effort to slim their faces and give them a younger appearance. According to shapeyourface.com, facial muscles are attached directly underneath the skin, so proper exercising can tone them. Facial exercises are done for only a few minutes every day, and take persistence in order to see results (Reference 2: Introduction).

Types of Exercises

    Apply moisturizer around the eyes prior to exercising.

    The first exercise, recommended by shapeyourface.com works the muscles located underneath the eyes. Slightly wink, but not so much that it causes the outer part of the eyes to wrinkle (this is where crow's feet may be located). Hold for a second, open the eye, and then repeat. Do 50 repetitions on each eye. Next, press the fingers into the temples and slightly press the muscle back. Close eyes and repeat (Reference 2: Exercise 1).

    The next exercise works the muscle around the mouth. Place one index finger on the inside of both sides of the mouth and pull. The mouth should look like a big grin, and some pressure should be felt. Slowly move the index fingers together. Do up to 50 repetitions (Reference 2: Exercise 2).

    The third exercise, that shapeyourface.com recommends, tones the chin muscle. Pat some water around the mouth and chin. Push the lower lip up and contract the chin downward. Hold for a second and repeat up to 30 times (Reference 2: Exercise 3).

    The fourth facial exercise works the front part of the neck. Tilt the head halfway back while sticking the tongue to the top of the inner mouth, pressing slightly. Tilt the head back down, so that the chin is facing toward the neck. Repeat. (Reference 2: Exercise 4).

Diet

    As with any other part of the body, weight loss in the face cannot be achieved through exercise alone. A balanced diet of little fat and the right mix of carbohydrates, protein, dairy, vegetables and fruits will help with overall weight loss, including in the face (Reference 1). Plus, eating healthy food provides the skin with a natural glow. Do not deprive the body of food, as that actually makes the face look worse, due to lack of nutrients. No matter how many facial exercises are done, they will be useless if a good diet is not followed.
