Hill's Pet Foods, known for their Science Diet brand, offer a number of prescription foods for cats and dogs that with illnesses that can benefit from dietary support. The Hill's Diet c/d foods are formulated for animals with urinary problems such as struvite stones, calcium oxalate stones and chronic urinary infections. These formulas are available for both cats and dogs and come in both canned and dry forms. Like all prescription diets, they must be purchased with a veterinarian's prescription.

Meat Products

    Hill's Diet Prescription feline canned c/d formula is available in both chicken and seafood flavors. On both labels, the first few protein ingredients are pork by-products, pork liver, chicken and fish meal. Fish is an ingredient in the seafood product. The dry variety contains chicken or chicken by-product meal. "By-products" are those parts of the animal that are not the muscle meat, such as neck, head, feet, bones and any other extraneous parts cut away from the muscle meat. Grains

    In the Hill's Diet c/d feline canned formula, nutrition from grains is provided by rice, oat fiber, corn starch and corn gluten meal in both the chicken and seafood varieties. The c/d dry formula contains brewer's yeast and corn gluten meal.

    In the canine canned c/d formula, rice, whole grain corn and soybean mill run are the grains listed. The dry c/d formula contains whole grain corn, corn gluten meal and soybean run meal.

Oils

    The Hill's Prescription Diet c/d feline canned food formula contains fish oil in both the chicken and seafood varieties. The c/d dry formula also contains fish oil. In addition, the dry form contains pork fat, according to the ingredients listing and the Hills c/d Multicare ingredients page.

    The canine c/d formulas, both canned and dry, contain soybean oil.

Vitamins and Minerals

    The list of ingredients that provide vitamins and minerals in all c/d formulas is extensive, and includes vitamins to promote a healthy immune system and to control cell oxidation. The formulas control levels of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and oxalate to limit the formations of urinary stones.

    The feline c/d formulas contain vitamin E, riboflavin, vitamin A, vitamin B-12, folic acid, vitamin D-3, beta-carotene, thiamine, iron, zinc, manganese and calcium. Taurine, an amino acid that is vital for feline health according to MedicAnimal.com, is also added.

    The canine formula contains vitamin E supplement, vitamin C, iron, potassium, thiamine, niacin, beta-carotene, manganese, copper, vitamin B-12, vitamin D3, riboflavin, calcium, folic acid and selenite.
